If there is one thing I love more than the Olympics

It has to be the parents reactions to all the wins.

One mother in particular that I love is Michael Phelps Mom.

Debbie Phelps is seriously the cutest mom ever. It seems through the years her style has remained fabulous and loud.

These Olympics her statement jewelry is amazing, as well as his sisters. I love seeing her reaction when she sees the final.

Being a mother now, makes me love her even more. She seems like such an amazing Mother, doing anything and everything to make sure that he could be the best he could best.

So Debbie, even though these might be the last olympics we see you in, just know you have made such a positive impression in my life.

Maybe one day that will be me cheering in the stands watching Vince being great {which I know he will be} and if I am I hope I can look as adorable as Debbie does!

Gymnastics were also huge today!! The Fab 5 rocked it! I can't believe how amazing they did, they blew everyone out of the water.

One Week of Only a Sippy!

Jacob and I decided that we wanted to completely wean Vince off a bottle before his first birthday. Mainly because his bottle have so many pieces, and washing them is a pain in the butt!

Let me give you a little back story first, we first introduced a sippy cup at 6 months old.  The first one we tried was the Tomme Tippee Closer to Nature First Sips Weaning Cup. All he would do is bite the spout, after a week of trying to get him to actually drink out of it, we were on the hunt to find another sippy.

We decided to go with a silicone spout cup, because that is the closest thing to his actual bottle and we thought it would be a good transition. We got the Nuk Learner Cup with the handles and he drank from it so well. The only thing was that the flow was a little too quick for him so we would limit it quite a bit.

Around 9-10 months is when he would drink out of it no problem. We would give it to him once a day with milk or juice. We also decided to get a larger one that didn't have the handles and they hold 10oz of liquid.

We also wanted to get a straw cup and I heard so many good things about the Zoli Bot Straw Cup. I ordered it and my first straw didn't work. So I called customer service and they sent me two replacement straw and refunded me. They have great customer service and Vince loves the cup! We have him drink out of it once or twice a day.

Okay so rewind back to last week. We decided that we would just do a whole day cold turkey of bottles. When we were in Tucson he was getting 2 or 3 sippys a day because of being on the go they were easier to clean. The only bottle I was worried about was the night bottle. It calms him down so much and I didn't want the faster flow to make it so he couldn't relax.

The day went fine, just as I thought and then night came, he was really tired so I think that helped. He drank it, but never had the sleepy drowsing into sleep look. Which he normally has with the bottle, he doesn't fully fall asleep, just gets drowsy. So I laid him down and he whined a little, but quickly fell asleep.

The next night was even better and from then on he was used to the sippy cup. I am so glad he weaned so easily. And I also enjoy washing less parts.

Now I will add I have nothing against mothers or babies who drink bottles to any age. My main motto is "If it isn't broke, don't fix it" but I am lazy and hate washing his bottles so that was our main reason. I am just sharing this to show what worked for us!

11 Month Dairy Trial

yogurt face

So 2 days after Vince turned 11 months old we trailed dairy again. Yogurt is what his G.I. doctor told us to give him to test. He had ate yogurt before and had a reaction.

This time we had high hopes since he had been eating just about everything else without a problem. The first day after he ate it his eyes seemed a little pink, but nothing that I even worried about. Day 2 he  had tiny red marks around his mouth only for about 15 minutes after eating. Day 3 he spit it all up plus some and day 4 the same red marks around his mouth. On day 5 he spit up, but only a little amount.

We didn't give him anymore after that, his demeanor didn't change at all and he was actually sleeping really well. He did get a tiny amount of eczema around his elbows, the same place he used to get it.

While this time was extremely better that any other time, we didn't get the results we were hoping for. Soon I am going to cook something with milk in it and have him eat and see how he does. Then cook something that has eggs in it and try it out.

I am thinking I will make his cake normal, since his reactions are severe and he doesn't seemed troubled by them. I have been chatting with some other moms whose children have allergies and they say that they always gave little pieces of what their child was slightly allergic to, to help build a stronger tolerance to it. I have also read some studies where this was proved with eggs as well.

So that is our status on Vincey's allergies as of late. We go back to the G.I. doctor in late August and we will discuss what we will give Vince for milk. I would prefer trying to go with an almond or coconut milk, but his G.I. suggested last time staying with the Neocate and bumping up to the Neocate Junior. He did say if we wanted to do coconut or almond that he would have to take an extra vitamin supplement.

I am sure we will also even try whole milk, just again to test it out. Children can grow out of allergies in as little as a month. And each time we have trailed it has gotten better and better. We have high hopes that he will outgrow it, or at least seem to tolerate it a little better.

Thanks for all your prayers and kind words through all of Vincent's allergies

If you really knew me..

I have seen this on so many blogs and just love it! So here is mine!!

If you really knew me you would know that I can get obsessive.

If you really knew me you would know I have zero self control at pot lucks or parties with tons of food.

If you really knew me you would know that I am a horrible driver and even worse parker.

If you really knew me you would know that I wash my hair once or twice a week. {it just doesn't get oily}

If you really knew me you would know I grew up going to Mexico all the time, because my dad raced catamaran sailboats.

If you really knew me you would know I could live on bean and cheese burritos. But only a real Mexican bean and cheese burrito, no taco bell!

If you really knew me you would know I have a love for doing hair, but hate doing my own.

If you really knew me you would know that I haven't worked in almost a year and some days I miss it terribly some days I don't.

If you really knew me you would know I am in the works of becoming a personal trainer.

If you really knew me you would know that Jacob and I are high school sweethearts and have been dating since we were 16 & 17!

If you really knew me you would know I have so many shoes and normally only wear about 5 of them.

Well I loved this post!

Fitness Friday

This week I wanted to repeat some old workout and check and see where some of my one rep maxs were at. I am pretty excited that I beat my time on some WODs and increased my one rep max.

Friday:
30 toes to bar {which I actually did!}
105 pound Deadlift, 30 reps
30 Double-unders {10 in a row!}
45 pound Overhead squat, 15 reps {tried to go for 30, but I need to work on them more!}
30 Pull-ups {jumping}

Bottom right picture is whip marks from the speed roap, ouch

Saturday:
Rest Day

Sunday:
"Helton"
Three rounds for time of:
Run 800 meters
30 reps 25lb dumbell squat cleans
30 burpees

finally seeing more muscle definition

I took 7 minutes off my time, finishing in 33 minutes. I still took quite a few breaks in between. That WOD is a killer! I was so sore after!

Monday:
Rest Day

Tuesday:
"Ship"

Nine rounds for time of:
60 pound Squat clean, 7 reps
8 Burpee box jumps, 36" box

This WOD was extremely difficult because I pretty much did the same one two days before. The last 4 rounds I ended up only doing hang power cleans, because my body was fatiguing badly. I really need to work on getting heavier power cleans.

Wednesday:
2-2-2-2-2-2-2
Push Press
65lbs, 75lbs, 75lbs, 75lbs, 75lbs, 80lbs, 80lbs
2 400 meter sprints

This workout was difficult for me, I have never tried to go heavy on my push press. The max I have ever gone is 50. I get nervous with heavy weights over my head {shouldn't we all!} But I was impressed that I made it to 80 pounds. This workout was CrossFit.com WOD just like the Tuesday and man my shoulders are smoked! The run was something extra I added.

Thursday:
21-15-9
Back squats with 115lbs
Toes to bar or knees to chest

2x1 minute of plank
20 handstand push-ups

The 21-15-9 I got from CrossFit.com where again I get a ton of my WODs from. I am not the best at toes to bar so I would say it was about half and half between toes to bar and knees to chest.

The main reason I do so many handstand push ups is because I get amazing results from them. It really engages your core and burns your back and shoulders. I try to do them after each workout or every other.

And I got some new lululemon!!!
Again this week I absolutely  sucked at eating paleo. I ate decent, but am having trouble recovering from when I was in Tucson. We haven't done a full grocery shop or meal planning so this weekend it is on!
Also linking up!!

Friday's Letters

Photobucket

Dear Vince: I can't believe that you are almost 1.  21 days to be exact. Where has the time gone? I am still working on the minor details for your party, but I am almost there. You are talking up a storm and now officially saying "hi" it is the cutest thing in the world.

Dear Jacob: I utterly dislike you working swings {3pm-11pm} I feel like I never get to see you. And I am too much of an old lady to stay up and see you. Also eating dinner alone is kind of sad and I miss you here to eat.

Dear Tucson: I miss your weather, it did wonderful things to my skin and Vince's hair. I love humidity, after living in high altitude and dry weather I felt like I had La Mer on my skin. Now my skin is back to dry and Vince's hair is straight. Thank goodness we will be going back soon. I love Arizona.

Dear Short Hair: It has been 5 days since I have had you and couldn't be happier with my decision. It is so much more manageable now that it is short and cute!

This is such a fun link up! Cant believe I haven't done it sooner!!

The Olympics!!!!!!!

Soooooo freaking excited for them! I am an Olympics junkie! If you couldn't tell by yesterdays post! I even went to the games when they were in Salt Lake. I was 13 and had a huge crush {ok obsession} with Apolo Anton Ohno. And still do! I even met him once! {Ok stalked his twitter and just so happened to know where he was!}

The olympics to me are the highest level of any athletic accomplishment. I cry multiple times during the games, yes it gets me that emotional. These athletes work so hard to get here and to me their will power and determination is so inspiring.

Track and Gymnastics are my hands down favorites! Although every time they come on I catch onto a new sport and get really into it.

I'm sure I will blog a ton about the games and tweet all about them!

I can hear the olympic jingle in my head now!!

What are you guys excited for? Doing anything special for them?

DIY Olympics Tee

I posted the Olympics shirt I made on Instagram and they seemed like a big hit! A friend of mine also wanted one so I figured I would do a tutorial on it! With the games starting in two days, I know the time for you all to do this is short, but you can always wear them the whole 17 days of the Olympics!!

These tees are super easy. I think it took me longer to get set up than the actual project!

What you will need:
A shirt or shirts
Fabric dye in Blue, Black, Red, Yellow & Green {I only bought yellow, blue and red and mixed}
Cardboard
Spray bottle
A circular object to trace the rings
5 container that you don't mind getting stained
Paint brushes
And an old white towel or some white fabric to test your colors

I even mixed the brands and everything worked!

-First you will trace the wrings onto your cardboard. I just had a picture of the rings open on my phone that I kept checking. Do this with a dark sharpie, I don't recommend marker just in case it wants to bleed when you use the spray bottle.

-Once you get them all aligned put the cardboard in the shirt. Now it doesn't have to be perfect just yet. Then you will use your spray bottle and spray until you can see the rings.

-When you see the rings you can start painting. I also organized my containers with dye in the shape of the rings so that there wasn't any confusion. And do a color test on that old fabric before on the actual tee. I did the bottom row first them moved to the top. It doesn't have to be perfect, in fact I think it looks better when it isn't.

-When the rings are painted move onto the flag part. Again insert a piece of cardboard and paint half of your flag. I obviously did USA's flag, but you could do any.  Then flip it over and paint the opposite side and lay that on another piece of cardboard or paper.

-Let it dry before taking out any of the cardboard. This will ensure that there isn't any bleeding through the back of the tee.

-I hope you enjoy this shirt!! I love mine and it will be worn multiple times during the games and even after!!

And I am linking up with Beyond The Picket Fence

11 months!

AHHH!! Less than a month until my baby is no longer considered a baby anymore. Although in my eyes he will always be my baby. I don't know when I will accept that he is growing and getting older, let alone becoming so independent. It makes me so sad and happy all at the same time.

and this is how he felt about 11 month pictures!

As for his height and weights stats, I have no idea. I think he has been in a growth spurt due to his sleeping schedule, so maybe in the 20s now.

He now as 7 teeth and I think a few more might be popping through sometime soon.

typical Jacob face

He loves swimming still, but the splash pad has to be his favorite! Bath time is also extremely fun in this house. Normally at the end, the entire bathroom floor is soaked, as am I.

He also seems to have a bigger interest in cars, or things with wheels. Also books are a huge favorite, he loves flipping through the pages and turning them every which way.
only way he would let me take a footprint picture

The mirror is also a must for Vince, I brought one out once to move it and he was so interested in it that it has stayed in our living room. He will talk to himself, kiss himself and high five himself.

His sleeping has also been awesome this month! Most nights he will sleep all night, or wake up with maybe 10 minutes of light crying. Which really means that this momma is well rested!

As for walking, I am not sure it will come soon. He will walk holding the couch or ottoman, and maybe  one or two steps holding his wooden push toy. He also will let go for a couple seconds, but nothing that makes me think walking will be soon. I do get a little inner jealousy when I see friends posting about their babies walking, but I know he will do it on his own time.

Waving and clapping are maybe his favorite things to do, he gets so excited and is also adding the "hhiiii" in there.

I am really trying to enjoy the last month of him being under one. I remember this time last year being so ready for him and thinking about what he would look like. He is such a blessing and we are so thankful for him.

10 Months Old

This has been a draft since before Vince was even 10 months! Yikes well here is some catch up! 11 month post will be tomorrow which is still even a couple days late!!

Seriously??? Only two more short months and Vince will be one!!! Everyday I look at him, I can see him growing into a little boy and not my 8 pound 6 ounce newborn. He is growing so fast sometimes I feel like I blink and he has a new tooth or can do something new.

Right now he is 19 pounds and 8 ounces and 29.5 inches tall. He is wearing mostly 9 month stuff with the occasional 6 months since is he skinny, but pants have to be 9 months and sometimes those are too short.

So sad the only two pictures he would let me take!

His biggest 10 month milestones have to be pulling up to stand on just about everything. He also stood on his own when we let go of his hands a couple times for about 5 seconds. Also so many more teeth he is up to 5 now! He got his two tops a couple weeks ago and yesterday I noticed the the tooth by his big tooth was in. How I missed that I am not sure, but how exciting!!

He is still drinking quite a bit of milk, which the G.I. told us to try and cut back a little. He is eating 3 meals a day with sometimes a snack in there as well. He is still waking every night for a bottle and I'm afraid that is going to have to take some sleep training to get him off that schedule. His favorite foods lately are carrots, which he HATED when we first started foods and a lot more veggies. Sometimes I will even give him apples, his old favorite and he won't eat them. I have tried so many types of juice but he won't drink them, the G.I. says keep trying, which I am with no luck.

He naps still quite a bit, I normally get 3 naps a day. The first two are normally around an hour and a half to two hours and the third anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour. Bedtime has moved a little later since we have been going to the gym in the afternoons now. Normally its at 6:30-7 which is nice and a wakeup time of 7.

As for his first birthday, I am in the planning stages now and have bought a few things. I did find a recipe for an egg less and dairy free cake for his smash cake. I will probably make two since I want to do a photoshoot with one. My family and I plan on making all the cupcakes and other treats and all the decor will mostly be DIY. My dad is designing the invite, which I am so excited about and this week I will start buying some things off ETSY. I plan on making his shirt as well, still don't know what it will look like, but I am excited for it.

Official First Word

What do you guys consider to be the first work that your child says?

For me I always thought that until they actually know what they are saying and not just putting sounds together, that happen to maybe sound like "mama" or "dada."

Now Vince has always been extremely vocal little guy, and it has always sounded like he says "mama" and "dada" but I don't think he actually knows why he is saying that or that we are these sounds he is yelling.

But for a little over a week now, he has been working on waving and once he waves he says "hiiiiii." Yesterday it became extremely apparent that he was doing it while we were at Costco. A friend and I were eating and he was sitting in their giant carts and waving and saying "hiiii" to everyone who walked by.

So is this an official first word.  Jacob doesn't want to agree since it isn't daddy, but I am a believer!!

Tucson Trip 5 & 6

So these were our last two days in Tucson and although it is always sad to say goodbye to family and friends, we sure did miss Jacob back in Albuquerque.

Day 5:
This was our run around and get stuff done day! In the morning we went and saw my mom at her work  and each time I go there I get a little more envious of her view. Vince liked that he could explore the office and play around.
exploring Grandmas office

watermelon eeggee!

Then we headed down near the University of Arizona to eat lunch with my Aunt and Cousin for lunch. Vince ate oranges and I broke down and gave him a french fry! It was really the only finger food they had. He enjoyed it!

Then we went and got some U of A apparel and got Vince the cutest sock monkey wearing a Arizona hoodie! I couldn't resist!

taken once we got home, but look at that monkey

That night I got a tattoo!! I had been wanting a V tattoo for Vince and finally got it! I am so in love with it, it turned out better than I could imagine!!

The V

Day 6:

Back to Albuquerque we went! We met my Mom to drop off the rental car and to meet Alyssa to transfer back into her car.

We left Vince take the wheel, he thought it made a great chew toy. Then we said bye to my Mom and she didn't cry! We will be back in three weeks so I think that helped out a bit.
like our unplanned matching?

We loaded up Alyssa's car and took off! The trip back was so much quicker than there. We went through about 3 storms and it was the best the smell ever! Desert rain is my favorite smell in the entire world!

Vince enjoyed his books on the way home and trying to get his feet to touch Phoebes {Alyssa's dog} nose. He acted a lot better on the ride home than there, which leaves me hopeful for road trips to come.

And that was our trip! We had so much fund and we can't wait to go back in a couple weeks!
